ISLAMABAD The Capital Development Authority (CDA) decided to remove the contentious sculpture of two golden hands clutching spheres on Margalla Avenue after receiving a lot of negative feedback on social media.
The installation was widely criticized for its alleged lack of aesthetic merit and ambiguous symbolism, and it soon became the subject of internet mocking. Numerous people referred to it as tone-deaf and questioned whether it was suitable for the public areas of the city.
On Tuesday, a CDA representative affirmed that a private housing organization removed the sculpture on its own initiative.
It appears that a real estate project had positioned the installation on Margalla Avenue as a component of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. But according to the CDA, the relevant CDA department did not authorize the design.
