On Monday, a German physician will stand trial for administering fatal injections to 15 patients, which authorities believe may be the beginning of a deadly trend.
The 40-year-old palliative care specialist, identified by German media as Johannes M., is charged with the murders of three men and twelve women when he was employed in Berlin from September 2021 to July 2024.
In an attempt to hide his crimes, he allegedly gave the victims, who ranged in age from 25 to 94, lethal doses of sedatives and, in certain cases, lit their houses on fire.
According to the newspaper Die Zeit, a coworker first became concerned about Johannes M. last July after growing suspicious that so many of his patients had perished in fires.
