At least 16 people have been killed and tens of thousands have been displaced as Thailand and Cambodia engage in the bloodiest fighting in over a decade, exchanging heavy artillery fire across their disputed border.
Following the death of a Cambodian soldier in a brief gunfight in May, tensions between the neighbors of Southeast Asia started to rise. Since then, they have steadily increased, leading to diplomatic disputes and, more recently, armed conflicts.

Heavy artillery exchanges continued for a second consecutive day as clashes between the two nations began early Thursday at a disputed territory bordering a historic temple. The fighting then spread to other places along the disputed frontier.
