Authorities in Russia reported on Sunday that up to 28 people, including a toddler, had died in a horrific attack carried out by Kiev on a bakery in the eastern Ukrainian Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), which is under Moscow’s control. The Kremlin stated that the attack involved the use of the HIMARS rocket system.
In July 2022, Russian soldiers seized control of Lysychansk, also known as LPR, from Ukrainian forces. It is close to the front lines of combat and has been targeted by Ukrainian strikes nonstop.
However, the most recent assault by Ukrainian forces is thought to be the deadliest.
Following the Ukrainian attack, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Kremlin’s Foreign Ministry, alleged that the Ukrainian military specifically targeted the bakery because they “were know that on Saturdays local residents traditionally gather there for dessert and groceries, including elderly people and families with children.”
