The Supreme Court rejected the Punjab government’s progress report on the Jaranwala incident on Tuesday, with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa declaring it is “worth throwing in the trash”.
The top justice’s statements occurred during a hearing on minorities’ rights, in which the Punjab provincial government filed its progress report on the incident.
On August 16, a heated crowd vandalised multiple churches and set fire to scores of houses in Jaranwala, Faisalabad’s industrial neighborhood, after clerics made statements in mosques inciting the mob to attack the Christian community over alleged blasphemy charges.
