Mahetab, the woman, expressed to News that she thought she was singled out because she had a Palestinian flag hanging in her window. The incident occurred as recent data showed a substantial increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes reported in the UK following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.
The woman, who goes by Mahetab alone, thinks that since she had a Palestinian flag flying in her window, someone attacked her house.
She came out in response to recent data showing a substantial increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes reported in the UK following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.
Following the atrocity of last year, the number of Islamophobic events registered to a monitoring organization has more than tripled.
Mahetab claimed that on February 5, around 2:30 in the morning, she heard the window smash.
She said to News, “I realized there was a large brick on the floor.”
“The police told me, when they saw the brick, they said it could have killed me.”
Mahetab chose to address the public in an effort to persuade law enforcement and local governments to take hate crimes against Muslims seriously.
