KARACHI: On Monday night, a university student was shot dead in Karachi’s Korangi district while thwarting a robbery attempt.
According to rescue sources, the event occurred in Korangi’s Allah Wala Town neighbourhood, and the victim was identified as Laraib, a private university student.
Muhammad Hussain, the victim’s father, stated his son left the house to go to the gym. He stated that the student was also writing a book and that the data was saved on his cell phone, which is why he resisted the robbery attempt.
The father informed the media that Laraib was engaged and that his wedding was set to take place in 2025.
Laraib’s brother Shahzaib stated that his brother was writing a book on basic accounting. Ruling regarding the police’s failure to deal with such crimes, he stated that law enforcement agencies had failed to stop dacoity incidents in the metropolis.
According to police, the victim was stopped by two suspects as he returned home from the gym. The culprit fired a gunshot that struck a Korangi resident near one of his eyes, killing him.
According to authorities, an empty bullet shell from a 30-bore pistol was discovered at the scene of the event, and no mobile phone was recovered near the victim’s body. They stated that further inquiry was underway.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi Hassan Sardar stated that the young man may have tried to catch the miscreants. He said they only fired once at the victim and bullet hit near his eye which claimed his life.
