Port Grand, located in the heart of Karachi, is a haven on the city’s waterfront where it meets the sea. As the sun sets, giving a golden glow over the horizon, the scene comes to life with the majestic silhouettes of ships in the distance.
Couples and families flock, enticed by the site’s promise of solitude and spectacular sunsets, to create precious memories with their loved ones.
Amidst this tranquil environment, there is a hidden gem: a fisherman named Mallah, who plays the Banjo, a traditional Baloch musical instrument, with soul. His melodies thread through the air, charming everyone who hear them and crossing borders to captivate hearts across India.
Meet Muhammad Siddique, a Karachi-based banjo artist who has been the soulful heartbeat of Port Grand for almost two years.
Siddique, who was born and raised in the port city, has a profound passion for the Banjo, which can be felt throughout the bustling ambiance of the waterfront.
“The Banjo song has always had a particular place in my heart. As a child, I would follow the sound of its strings, captivated like a moth to a flame. Back then, Karachi was alive with the tunes of several Banjo players, each lending their unique charm to the city’s music,” he recalls.
