According to data from the Driving Standards Agency, theory test centers recorded more than 1,600 instances of cheating in 2022–2023 compared to 568 in 2020–2021.
Sixty-five of the 1,652 reports from 2022–2023 were looked into for possible cheating, and 46 of those cases resulted in charges for theory test fraud.
In spite of the significant number of accusations of cheating, the theory test currently has a pass percentage of only 45.4%.
It occurs at a time when, after COVID, wait times to schedule a practical driving test have exploded.
The analysis revealed that, at 75% of test centers prior to lockout, the average wait time had increased from six weeks to more than five months.
