Similar to other countries of the world, Pakistan is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, the holiday of breaking the fast, following the announcement of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee about the sighting of the Shawwal moon throughout the nation.
Muslims commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr as the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which they fast.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the head of the highest moon seeing council, announced the Shawwal moon after a meeting in Islamabad.
The committee head stated at a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday that the choice was made in light of the testimonials that were received from various regions of the nation.
Along with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee members, the officials from the Ministry of Education, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), and the meteorology department Science and Technology too also attended the central moon sighting committee huddle.
The meetings of zonal committees were held in the provincial capitals — Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.
