A Vancouver, Washington, hobbyist photographer was out during the day break shooting photos at Oregon’s Hug Point with his new camera when he caught something so unusual that it went viral and made him a celebrity.
Michael Sanchez took multiple pictures of a bird that was hopping around in the area. Until he was shook, everything was routine and somewhat unobtrusive.
A week later, the middle school brand director was an overnight celebrity thanks to those photos. Little did he know that he had captured a rare sighting of an East Asian native bird in North America in 1997.
The bird was the uncommon blue rock-thrush, reports of which were disregarded by the American Birding Association in the past.
