The Awami Action Committee (AAC) asked for the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to dispatch the Rangers as the protests and demonstrations against exorbitant power bills and levies reached their third day.
This comes after violent altercations between demonstrators and police broke out in Mirpur during protests, leaving a policeman dead and over 70 injured.
In the meantime, the AAC’s central leadership has disassociated itself from the violent protest-related incidents.
Sajid Jagwal, an AAC member, claimed that their movement is nonviolent. They have been sitting for two days, he added, and nothing has happened.
Tauseef Mansoor, another member, stated that the committee is unrelated to the two or three events that havehappened during the protests.
Anjuman Tajran President Sahabzada Waqas said that the protest weas not against the state or any institution.
