The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) cautioned relevant authorities on Monday to exercise caution due to the possibility of flash floods or Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in the susceptible glaciated and snow-covered regions of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Chitral.
From May 21 to 27, daytime highs of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius are predicted for GB and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds.
This atmospheric state may make it more likely that flash floods or a GLOF event will occur in the vulnerable glaciated and snow-covered regions of Chitral and GB.
