ISLAMABAD: Following the Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this month that the investigation’s conclusions did not align with the terms of reference (ToRs), the federal cabinet has shown displeasure with the inquiry commission report on the historic 2017 Faizabad sit-in.
The report was delivered by Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan prior to Tuesday’s federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, which was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Following the AGP’s briefing of the cabinet on the results, the members deemed the report to be unsatisfactory.
The inquiry commission’s failure to address the ToRs was noted by the highest court, and the federal cabinet agreed, directing the creation of a special committee to provide recommendations on the subject.
In accordance with the ruling of the supreme court, the federal government established a three-person commission in November of last year to ascertain who organized, funded, and encouraged a sit-in in the Faizabad neighborhood of Islamabad against the government of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Dr. Akhtar Ali Shah, a former KP police officer, chaired the commission, which also comprised former inspector general Tahir Alam and senior PAS official Khushhal Khan.
