The Pakistan Railways Department has announced a substantial cut in train rates across all classes in response to the recent drop in diesel costs. The cut in fare has been officially announced and is going into effect right now.
Passengers traveling shorter distances will benefit from the fare decrease, which is applicable to train journeys ranging from one to 200 kilometers for all classes of trains. The economy and AC classes have experienced the biggest losses.
Train tickets drop
The railway officials claim that there have been up to 54% reductions in economy class rates on specific routes. For example, on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route, the minimum ticket for the economy class has dropped from Rs250 to Rs100.
In a same vein, the Khyber Mail’s economy class fare—which covers travels between 1 and 130 km—has also been lowered from Rs 250 to Rs 100.
Additionally, rates for AC class passengers would be significantly reduced, with savings of 40% on a number of itineraries.
Both frequent travelers and daily commuters will find respite in this action, since rail travel will now be more affordable. The Railways Department highlights that the goal of this fee cut is to increase the affordability of rail travel by sharing the advantages of lower fuel costs with the general population.
