Attending Captain Faraz Ilyas’ funeral prayers in Kasur on Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the man who was killed on Sunday in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat area.
Along with the Punjab police head and the minister of information, Attaullah Tarar, a number of top military personnel, civic authorities, and locals attended the funeral prayers. In addition, the prime minister met and offered his condolences to the soldier’s parents.
The Prime Minister declared that the officer’s village would become a model village and would be christened “Faraz Ilyas Shaheed”. He prayed for the bereaved family to face the loss with resoluteness and gave the parents the assurance that their son’s sacrifice would not be in vain.
The PM noted that a martyr has a special place in heaven according to the teachings of the Quran, pointing out that many military members have given their lives in defense of their country. He added that the country was proud of its brave sons and that the terrorists’ cowardice could not break their unflinching commitment.
The prime minister also expressed his sincere sadness on his X account over the deaths of army men in a targeted attack in Lakki Marwat, including the death of a captain.
“We owe it to our heroic warriors and residents to mercilessly eradicate terrorism from our country in order to atone for their sacrifices. My warmest sympathies to the families of the deceased,” he wrote.
