In an attempt to arrive in Gelsenkirchen, western Germany, by Sunday—in time to watch the England men’s football team play Serbia—the 27-year-old departed from Wembley Stadium in London on Tuesday.
Mr. Cook plans to run 352 miles and then follow England manager Gareth Southgate and the team around cities during the tournament.
On June 20, the England team will play Denmark in Frankfurt, which is about 160 miles away from Gelsenkirchen.
Before the run, Mr. Cook stated, “I want to support the boys,” and he added, “This might be our year; I think we’ll be going all the way.”
I’m excited to watch it all happen because I trust the players and I have faith in Southgate.”
Mr. Cook completed his challenging journey of running the whole length of Africa in April, having crossed 16 nations in less than a year.
He raised more than £600,000 for two organizations throughout the race, which is the equivalent of 376 marathons.
Mr. Cook plans to run between 60 and 80 km every day in order to reach Germany by the end of the week. He will extend an invitation to anyone who sees him to join him on his journey.
