KARACHI: Police established a six-person team on Tuesday to investigate the death of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) councillor Muhammad Amir Abbasi. Amir was shot and killed in the Korangi neighborhood of the city one day earlier in what appeared to be a planned attack.
According to a first information report (FIR), the incident happened close to Singer Chowrangi, Korangi, when the elected councillor was riding a motorcycle with his brother seated behind him when unknown gunmen opened fire on him.
After the brother of the deceased councilman, Sumair Abbasi, filed a complaint, a case was opened at the Awami Colony Police Station. According to the FIR, the representative was shot in the neck and subsequently lost his life.
After learning of the murder of Councillor Abbasi, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari requested that the murderers be apprehended right away.
One spent bullet shell that was discharged from a 9mm pistol was found at the crime scene, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Korangi Toheed Rehman Memon informed the media. He also mentioned that the area’s CCTV footage had been acquired.
