As per the police statement released on Thursday, six individuals from the group responsible for organizing the event in the Hathras region were taken into custody.
The primary event organizer, Devprakash Madhukar, was detained on Friday night in the Najafgarh neighborhood of the capital, Delhi, and turned over to law enforcement in the nearby state of Uttar Pradesh, according to police.
But later on, AP Singh, an attorney for the congregation’s leader, the preacher Bhole Baba, claimed that Mr. Madhukar had turned himself in to the police.
“We told you that we would surrender Devprakash Madhukar, take him in front of the police, interrogate him, participate in the investigation, and take part in the inquiry,” he told the news agency.
