KarachiKARACHI: The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) of Karachi declared a rain emergency on Saturday in areas under its jurisdiction due to the impending monsoon spell. Special teams were assigned to ensure that rainwater was drained off in a timely manner.
According to a CBC spokeswoman, 1,288 employees have been assigned to specific tasks in accordance with the organization’s rain emergency plan. Of these, 638 are assigned to rain emergencies across seven sectors, while the remaining 650 employees will be responsible for rainwater drainage.
The board also noted locations that are low to the ground and may be impacted by future downpours. Specific works in DHA Phases I through VIII, Clifton Blocks 8, 9, and the market area are to be completed by special personnel.
It further stated that although more teams would be stationed along the commercial avenues of Khayaban-e-Shujaat, Khayaban-e-Shehbaz, Khayaban-e-Badar, and Khayaban-e-Tariq, heavy machinery would be placed in the affected regions.
The spokesperson concluded that the CBC teams will be outfitted with 1,000–3,000-gallon water bowsers and strong pumps for drainage needs.
