Residents of Lahore and other Punjabi cities, who are already struggling with high living expenses, are concerned about the recent dramatic increase in the price of chicken flesh.
The official government tariff of Rs594 per kilogram is much lower than the current rate in Lahore, which has skyrocketed to nearly Rs650 per kilogram.
The problem is made worse by the fact that, despite the district government publishing pricing lists, the rates are not being followed.
This worrying pattern is not exclusive to Punjab. Peshawar and other cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are seeing even more dramatic price increases for chicken meat.
Local vendors in these areas state that the cost of live chicken meat is currently Rs490 per kilogram, while the cost of broiler chicken meat has lately increased by about Rs100 per kilogram.
