It comes as the government’s expert on political violence and disruption warned that far-right actors are “almost certainly” being “aided and abetted by hostile states in creating and fanning disinformation.”.
Dame Diana Johnson, Minister for Policing, told News that the government will provide the “necessary” resources to guarantee that individuals apprehended are processed expeditiously.
When asked if it included courts sitting overnight, she answered, “The prime minister has been very clear that we will do whatever it takes to make sure that people can get through the court system,”
“We’ve already arrested and remanded people to detention. It’s apparent that we want to convey a message to people: if you engage in criminal thuggery on our streets, you will face consequences.”
The prime minister, who was the director of public prosecutions during the 2011 riots, is experienced in ensuring adequate resources are available.
She also stated that there was prison capacity to house individuals convicted.
