While demonstrations over the high cost of power continue in various parts of the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the coalition government’s goal is to lower electricity rates and has emphasized that this should not be politicized.
The PM claimed that politicizing the electrical issue amounted to disrespecting people on Friday while presiding over a cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
He went on, “We do not believe in politics for the sake of politics.”
The prime minister spoke during demonstrations organized by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) against the exorbitant cost of energy, which led to the closure of a main route leading to Islamabad. Traders also staged rallies in a number of other towns.
