A ride-hailing service cab driver in Lahore is accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger in front of her female friend before he fled the scene, according to a report published on Saturday by Geo News. This incident raises major concerns about the safety of women utilizing both online and offline transport choices.
Following the victim’s report, the police opened a case and quickly moved to capture the culprit using a partial vehicle registration number that she had provided.
After finishing the ride, the driver dropped the woman and her friend off at their house, but he did not leave right away, according to the first information report (FIR).
Rather, the charge goes, he followed them inside the house to commit the supposed crime.According to information from the police complaint, the victim had, following a night out with a companion, made an online cab reservation in the hopes of having a convenient and safe ride home. This is a common occurrence for Pakistani commuters.
The driver left them off at the victim’s residence, capping an otherwise uneventful ride. The driver asked for a glass of water as they were ready to enter.
