The national strike scheduled to begin after August 14 has been announced by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, intensifying the party’s ongoing fight against rising energy costs and inflation.
The declaration is made as Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh enters its twelfth day; after several rounds of talks with the government, no compromise has been achieved.
In a recent interview, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stressed that the party is prepared for an extended protest in an interview with a private television channel. He disclosed that on August 8, Jamaat-e-Islami would hold a protest on Murree Road. Additionally, on August 14 and August 16, respectively, sit-ins will be held in Lahore and Multan.
