ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) petitioned the Supreme Court for a review of its brief ruling in the reserved seat issue involving the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In its petition, the poll watchdog declared that “primary relief has been granted to the PTI,” adding that “no seat out of seats reserved for women or non-Muslims has been claimed by the party, individuals claiming to be its candidates for reserved seats, or any independent-returned candidates approached the ECP, the high court, or the Supreme Court.”
Review of the “impugned judgement” is necessary since it was “not in accordance with the Constitution, law, and the precedents of the Supreme Court,” which was decided by a majority on July 12, 2024.
