When the tornado struck on Monday morning, Charlotte Golunski was one among the 22 passengers on board the Bayesian; six others were reported missing and one dead.
Ms. Golunski, 35, told the Italian la Repubblica that she kept her daughter Sofia “afloat with all [her] strength” after surviving together with 14 other people.
The head of pediatric care at the Di Cristina Children’s Hospital in Palermo, in an interview with News journalist Ashna Hurynag, stated that Ms. Golunski was not with her spouse during the storm.
Ms. Golunski was “very sad” for those who remained missing, even though she and her lover James Emsley—the father of her child—were rescued with only a few bruises.
After receiving care at a different hospital, Mr. Emsley and his companion “hugged and comforted each other” but “cried” for the others who had to be left behind.
Dr. Cipolla stated that the infant was unharmed. “The little girl was crying, she was very disoriented, she looked around and her mother was very sad and worried, especially for her husband who was in another hospital,” the doctor added.
