Feeling suspicious, the PTI local chapter said that the government intended to approve a bill amending the Local Government Act 2015 in parliament within the next few days, which would require new delimitations.
The PML-N, however, claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) granted the extension at the local lawmakers’ request since they were unable to turn in their nomination documents on time.
The deadline for submitting nomination papers has been extended from August 16 to August 28, per a notice sent by the ECP on Tuesday. Polling will take place on October 9 following the completion of several procedures, including reviewing the papers and submitting appeals.
