The disturbing problem of police officers being connected to the leaking and subsequent sale of customer SIM data on mobile phones in the open market has been brought to light by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The PTA formally brought up the issue with the Ministry of Interior, requesting that the current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) be revised in order to stop future violations.
Investigations into 21 complaints about data leaks, according to PTA sources, showed that police from Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan were involved in the sale of private telecom user data.
