Ayesha Raza Farooq stated in an interview with Dawn that the poliovirus has been found in 66 areas, including Azad Kashmir. 17 cases have been reported so far this year, one of which is from Islamabad and comes after 16 years.
“A plan to eradicate the virus has been developed, and we have reevaluated the polio situation in July and August,” Ms. Farooq stated, adding that both the federal and local governments have been involved.
To avoid the virus from spreading further, it was planned to run “three quality campaigns” in September, October, and December, she said.
The poliovirus will be eliminated using a scientific approach since it becomes “less active during the cold or winter season.”
