KARACHI: The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) raised the alarm on Thursday by confirming Quetta as the 18th case of poliovirus in the nation this year.
According to the NEOC, Quetta has seen two cases of the poliovirus this year, while Balochistan has seen thirteen, making it the province with the most cases overall.
In the provincial capital, a two-year-old boy has been left handicapped by the wild poliovirus type 1.
According to The News, representatives of the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) in Islamabad verified the case and emphasized the continued difficulties facing the country’s immunization campaign.
Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq expressed alarm over the increased number of cases and claimed that disruptions in the anti-poliovirus campaign in certain neighborhoods of Balochistan contributed to the virus’s spread.
