The Supreme Court fined those involved in false testimony and deceptive litigation Rs. 500,000 and ordered the immediate transfer of inherited property to widow Shamim Akhtar.
In order to avoid the revenue department seizing the property, the court imposed a three-month limit on the payment of the fine.
The bench’s chief justice, Pakistan’s Qazi Faez Isa, voiced dissatisfaction over the needless 26-year delay in a straightforward inheritance issue. The chief justice declared, “The culture of disinheriting women must end,” and said that anyone making false testimony should face consequences.
