The Houthis, who have been targeting ships in the Red Sea waterway for months, were targeted by long-range B-2 stealth bombers in an uncommon maneuver.
Although the extent of the strikes’ damage was not immediately known, local media said that sites in the Sanaa area of Yemen, which the organization has controlled since 2014, had been targeted.
There were additional reports of strikes near Saada, a Houthi stronghold.
According to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, “five hardened underground weapons storage locations in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen” were the target of the B-2 bombers.
“This was a singular example of the United States’ capacity to strike targets that our enemies want to keep out of reach, regardless of how far underground they may be.
Damage assessments are being conducted, according to the US Central Command, and they do not show any civilian casualties.
The campaign has resulted in the sinking of two ships and the deaths of four sailors.
According to the Houthis, they target ships associated with the US, the UK, or Israel in an effort to stop Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
However, a large number of the attacked ships—some of which are headed toward Iran—have little to do with the fighting.
