ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) declined to pursue the case in light of the 26th Constitutional Amendment on Monday, and the Supreme Court rejected the party’s argument on its internal elections.
The controversial constitutional package was approved by the coalition government in the National Assembly early on Monday morning, following its successful passage of the 26th Amendment Bill, 2024, by the Senate.
On the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari signed the bill into law, bringing the judicial changes into effect later today.
A three-judge panel, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and including Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Musarrat Hilali, was deliberating over the PTI’s request to reexamine its ruling regarding its internal election.
