The 74-year-old Bridges, who plays a former CIA agent in “The Old Man,” was diagnosed with blood cancer after a medical examination showed he had a sizable stomach tumor.
The celebrated actor had been “smacked around and punched in the stomach” during the stressful combat scenes he recorded for season one of the FX series months earlier.
God, when I think back on those, I flinched because, although I was unaware of it at the time, I had a 9 by 12 inch tumor in my stomach. “I’m getting punched in the stomach and smacked around,” Bridges told People magazine. It wasn’t painful. No discomfort was felt. However, I took a lengthy break [from filming] after that.
