KARACHI: Amjad Ali, a Pakistani runner, became the nation’s fastest finisher in the Istanbul Marathon on Sunday with an impressive timing of 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 29 seconds.
Ali placed 47th overall while competing in the 46th Marathon, the only long-distance marathon that crosses two continents in the globe, which drew thousands of competitors.
The 42-kilometer marathon began on the Asian side of Istanbul and finished on the European side.
Dejene Debela, an Ethiopian athlete, finished the race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 40 seconds to win the men’s division. Matthew Samperu of Kenya came in second with a timing of 2:11.55. Third place went to Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi, who finished in 2:12.07.
Ruth Jebet, an athlete from Bahrain, won the women’s title in the meantime.
