KARACHI: Muhammad Asif of Pakistan advanced to the IBSF World Snooker Championship final in Qatar on Tuesday after defeating Michael Georgiou of Cyprus 5-3 in a hotly contested semifinal match.
After falling behind Georgiou in the opening two frames, two-time world champion Asif recovered from an early setback.
He came back with four consecutive victories, scoring 53-57, 5-71, 94-0, 111-6, 77-45, 73-9, 24-74, and 58-51 to win the game.
He broke a century in the fourth frame, his fifth of the event, as part of his performance.
Georgiou won the first two frames, but Asif’s return changed the outcome. He kept up the pressure, especially in the fifth and eighth frames, which were crucial to his triumph.
