Stefan Ortega, the goalkeeper for Manchester City, has been included in Julian Nagelsmann’s 23-man roster for Germany’s forthcoming Nations League games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
Together with Oliver Baumann of Hoffenheim and Alexander Nuebel of Stuttgart, the 32-year-old Ortega, who joined City in 2022, is one of the three goalkeepers featured. He has been called up to the national squad for the first time.
Ortega was added because Marc-Andre Ter Stegen of Barcelona, Germany’s first-choice goalie, is still out with a major knee injury. The return of Julian Brandt and Felix Nmecha, midfielders for Borussia Dortmund, bolsters Nagelsmann’s team despite Ter Stegen’s absence. Nmecha, who received his one cap in March 2023 under former coach Hansi Flick, and Brandt, who hasn’t played for Germany since November 2023.
