Following Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis’ announcement that they were having a child, Chelsea denounced the “unacceptable and hateful homophobic comments” sent at them.
Chelsea striker Kerr shared on Instagram on Monday that she was expecting a child with her partner, West Ham midfielder Mewis.
The message read, “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” and included pictures of the pair.
Chelsea responded to the homophobic remarks made on the post on Tuesday.
“Chelsea Football Club is aware of recent unacceptable and hateful homophobic comments published across various social media platforms,” the organization stated.
“Discrimination of any kind has no place in society, and we will not put up with any abuse of our players, employees, or fans.
