The Punjab government reportedly announced a public holiday on November 21 to honor the death anniversary of Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the former head of the far-right political organization Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, according to recent social media speculations.
These assertions, however, have been shown to be untrue. The Punjab government allegedly declared a vacation in Lahore for this event, according to a graphic that started making the rounds on social media and WhatsApp groups on November 19.
“A public holiday has been announced in Lahore on November 21 to honor Khadim Hussain Rizvi’s death anniversary,” the post said, citing the Facebook page of a private news station.
Declaring the circulating screenshot to be a fake, the Punjab administration has formally denied issuing any such announcement.
