Due to “specific information of a potential significant air attack,” the United States has temporarily closed its embassy in Kyiv and instructed its citizens there to be ready to take shelter as soon as possible.
This extraordinary warning comes after the 1,000th day of the war and new authorizations from the departing Biden administration, which coincided with Ukraine’s recent use of U.S. ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the embassy will be closed, and embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place,” the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Affairs said in a statement posted on the embassy’s website.
Additionally, they advised Americans in Ukraine to be prepared to seek shelter right away in the event that an air alert is issued.
