Jade Thirlwall just clarified that she initially concealed her true identity.
The Little Mix actress, who is partly Arab with Yemeni and Egyptian ancestry, acknowledged in her most recent Rolling Stone UK cover interview that she was “scared to promote her heritage” after feeling excluded at school.
The X Factor winner told the newspaper, “I was afraid to promote my heritage because I’d only ever seen negative stereotypes of Arab people in the press.”
“I feel sorry for my younger self because I could have been the representation I needed back then,” the Sweet Melody musician added. I now attempt to make up for that.
Additionally, Thirlwall talked about being a solo artist after becoming a household name with her UK girl trio.
