In the film Elvis by Baz Luhrmann, Austin Butler was fantastic. Even after the movie ended, the California actor’s accent stuck with the King of Rock & Roll because he admitted he needed to get help from a professional.
During his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 32-year-old revealed that he had trouble getting rid of his “Elvis voice,” particularly when filming the World War II drama Masters of the Air.
“There was a lot of it. All I was doing was trying to recollect my identity and my interests. For three years, Elvis was all I could think about.”
He said, “I had a dialect coach just to help me not sound like Elvis in that film.”
When the Oscar-nominated actor turned back time, he shared his secrets for perfecting Elvis’ accent: “I would hear him say a certain word and I would clip just that bit out so I knew how he said that word,” he revealed to EW.
“I created my own archive of how he said every word and every diphthong, and the way that he used musicality in his voice.”
