ISLAMABAD: Because of unprotected sex and limited access to preventive measures, HIV has rapidly spread among some communities, including as transgender people (TGs), men who have sex with men (MSM), and female sex workers (FSWs).
According to The News, a study at the sixth round of the Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance (IBBS) showed progress and alarming patterns in the HIV spread in Pakistan.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination was informed of the study’s preliminary findings. Nearly ten years after the previous round, the Health Services Academy (HSA) conducted the study in collaboration with the WHO Collaborating Center for HIV Surveillance (HIVHUB), Iran, the HIV/STI Surveillance Research Center, and the Progressive Development Initiative (PDI), UK.
