KARACHI: The 16th Karachi Literature Festival featured a stimulating conversation about Pakistan’s fast expanding population and its implications for the future of the nation.
A prominent panel of experts convened for the session to examine the opportunities and problems related to the nation’s demographic patterns.
Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Lubna Naz, Rehana Ahmed, and Khalid Masud participated in the session, which was facilitated by Naeem Sadiq. The panelists discussed whether Pakistan’s demographic trajectory represents a potential economic benefit or a ticking time bomb, highlighting the urgent need for strategic planning and efficient policy implementation.
Pakistan, the fifth most populated country in the world, has a number of concerning statistics. 3.3 million children are engaged in child labor, 1.2 million are homeless, and more than 26 million youngsters are not attending school.
