After running out of money in Pattaya, Thailand, a British tourist named Ian Day allegedly staged his own kidnapping in order to demand money from his family back home, according to a claim published in The Sun.
Day, 48, was taken into custody by British police together with fellow British citizen Darren Cheeseman, 57, Frenchman Damien Roche, 50, and New Zealander Ben Cooper, 36. His friends were holding him captive when his relatives called him in a panic, claiming that Day had FaceTimed them.
The individual used FaceTime and iMessage to communicate with his family in the UK, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Sorasak Saengcha, who is in charge of the inquiry at the Central inquiry Bureau (CIB).
“He sent pictures of himself being attacked and then after with injuries,” Saengcha stated. His pals would strike him, causing facial bruises.
In the videos, he forced his three companions to don masks and play gangsters.
“He asked his family for money, so he staged the kidnapping.” They called the British police because they were concerned. It was reported to Interpol. We located the man after Interpol got in touch with Thai police. However, they were celebrating when we got there.”
