The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has denied social media claims that YouTube may be shut down, stating that no such order has been issued.
“No instructions have been given to block YouTube or any other social media platform,” the PTA spokeswoman said in a statement.
The clarification comes as the public is becoming confused due to an outdated press release that is once again making the rounds online.
“This outdated notification, originally issued in September 2012 in compliance with Supreme Court orders at the time, is being mistakenly linked to the current situation,” the spokeswoman said.
