A representative for China’s commerce ministry said Friday morning that Beijing was considering whether to negotiate tariffs with the US.
Amazingly high tariffs, up to 245% on some Chinese exports to the US, are stifling trade between the world’s two largest economies and raising the possibility of a recession. This was news that the rest of the world had been waiting to hear.
According to the spokeswoman, “US officials have repeatedly expressed their willingness to negotiate with China on tariffs,” the reporter said.
“China maintains its stance. The door is open if we speak, but if we fight, we shall battle until the end. Should the United States wish to engage in dialogue, it must demonstrate seriousness and be willing to rescind unilateral tariffs and rectify its wrongdoings.
