The federal government has ruled out the idea of the Centre taking Sindh’s water share for the contentious project, promising to discuss the PPP on the matter as tensions between the PML-N and the PPP simmer over the Cholistan canal issue.
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal stated on the Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” that “some politicians, engaging in fringe politics, are stoking the controversy…it is not that someone was eyeing Sindh’s water or usurping it.”
His comments followed President Asif Ali Zardari’s warning to the House and the administration that some of its unilateral actions are putting the federation under “severe strain” as he began the second parliamentary year.
