Following days of military confrontations between the two nuclear-armed nations that ended on Saturday under a truce mediated by the United States, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first public remarks elicited a furious response from Pakistani political leaders.
During his speech today, Modi warned Pakistan that if there were any more assaults on India, New Delhi would hit “terrorist hideouts” across the border once more and that Islamabad’s “nuclear blackmail” would not stop him.
Pakistan claims that the installations that India struck last week were civilian sites and refutes Indian assertions.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif responded to Modi’s remarks by claiming that he was acting like a “defeated gambler” with nothing left. The Indian PM acknowledged that there is merit in discussing terrorism and Kashmir.
